Waterproofing membrane applied to a bathroom floor and walls

Bathroom waterproofing and tanking.

Bathroom waterproofing Dubai done as a system — falls corrected, membrane applied with proper upstands, then flood tested before a single tile is laid.

Bathrooms · Waterproofing

The layer that decides everything else

Water sitting on a bathroom floor finds any gap in the membrane, tracks through the slab and appears as a stain on the ceiling below — usually weeks later and several metres from the actual fault. By the time it shows, the finished room has to come apart.

That is why we treat waterproofing as its own scope with its own sign-off: substrate prepared and primed, falls corrected, membrane applied to floor and wet-zone walls with correct upstands and corner detailing, then a flood test held before tiling. It adds days, not weeks, and it is what separates a bathroom that lasts from one that gets rebuilt.

What waterproofing covers

New bathrooms, wet rooms and repairs to failed installations.

Investigation

Establishing whether the leak is the membrane, a pipe, the drain connection or the shower screen seal.

Strip-out

Removing tiling and finishes back to a sound substrate — membranes cannot be verified through tiles.

Falls correction

Re-screeding so water runs to the drain instead of ponding in a corner.

Liquid membrane

Two-coat liquid applied to floor and wet-zone walls with reinforced corners, junctions and penetrations.

Upstands and detailing

Membrane carried up walls to the required height and dressed into drains, thresholds and pipe penetrations.

Flood testing

Water held on the floor and checked before tiling — the only real proof the system works.

Balcony and terrace tanking

External membranes over occupied space, detailed at doors and parapets.

Reinstatement

Tiling, sanitaryware and making good after the waterproofing is signed off.

Ceiling stain from a bathroom leak

Why bathrooms fail here

Concrete construction and constant humidity make small failures expensive.

Concealed pipework

Services buried in slabs mean leaks travel before they show. Detection saves opening several metres of ceiling.

Original construction shortcuts

Many older bathrooms were tiled over minimal or no membrane. Renovation is the moment to correct it.

Humidity

Constant moisture keeps substrates damp, so any breach stays wet rather than drying between uses.

Multi-storey damage

A first-floor bathroom leak damages ceilings, lighting and joinery below — the repair is never confined to one room.
