Removing the tray means the floor has to do its job
A shower tray is a waterproof container. Take it away for a level-access wet room and the floor build-up has to do everything the tray did: contain water, direct it to the drain and never let it reach the structure.
That means re-screeding to fall across the whole shower zone, a linear or point drain set precisely at the low point, full tanking with reinforced junctions, and a flood test. Done properly it is the best solution for small bathrooms — nothing makes a compact room feel larger than removing the step and the bath.

Most can, but a fully level threshold needs enough floor depth to form falls. Where depth is limited we use a very low threshold, which achieves nearly the same result.
Usually the best available change. Removing the bath and tray makes the room read as one space and adds real usable floor area.
Linear drains allow falls in one direction and suit large format tiles. Point drains need falls from four directions, which means more cutting and smaller tiles.
In a single-bathroom property, keeping one bath is worth considering for families. In a villa with several bathrooms, converting one or two to walk-in showers is generally an upgrade.
